Introduction

An answer from Claudia Gaspar in May 2009 on the forum of the ELP spoke of a text of Lacan which I did not know the existence of, which exists in Spanish. So I ordered the book. Released in June 1998 it had escaped the review of ‘Pas-tout [Lacan]’ in early 1999. Because it states “All rights reserved, for any reproduction, contact Jacques-Alain Miller” and the fact that the text in Spanish was published in ‘Revista Uno por Uno’ by a member of the AMP, it was excluded from being added to the ‘Pas-tout [Lacan]’ compilation. The recording which exists is missing, thus preventing a check of the transcription. The image of the original is at the end of the text.

The lecture was given at the Mediterranean University Center (MCU) in Nice on the 30th of November in 1974 and presented on the 30th of November in 1997 by Élisabeth Geblesco:

“Dr. Lacan had been invited by Jean Poirier then director of the Center Universitaire Méditerranéen, more commonly known as C.U.M. […] a friend [TN François Pélisser] recorded the lecture itself, which I undertook to transcribe […] I gave this text to dr Lacan in January 1975 and he was very satisfied […] after the death of Jacques Lacan on 9th September 1982, knowing that Jacques-Alain Miller was custodian of the moral right to the work, I refrained from using this text. It was published by “Cahiers Cliniques de Nice” n° 1 June 1998. p 9-25. – Élisabeth Geblesco

‘What place did the analyst have in this process, which was made up of a long-term continuity as well as of cuts, of words and of the body, to the point of tightening the “most central cornering [coinçage] of the symbolic, the imaginary and the real”?’ : From p9-10 of Freud2Lacan.com (Translation by Jack W. Stone. Edited by Anthony Chadwick and Richard G. Klein) : Knot

We might grasp that this goes a little bit further than it seems.
If we look closely at our geometry, we grasp, notably, that this is a geometry of the saw. Our flat surfaces, our volumes, our peaks, and other ideal lines, do not suffice to give a status to the point. And yet the point, the element as we also say ––we think with this even in mathematics. We support so‐called group theory with it.

There could be another way to produce a point, and this is what I have tried to do in speaking of a certain knot, called Borromean. It is a funny thing, which I will not draw for you now, because you are too numerous. If there were only five or six of you, as I expected, I would have drawn the Borromean knot for you, and you would have immediately seen how ravishing it is, and that it demonstrates the relationship [JE rapport in French] of the real, the imaginary, and the symbolic as is not permitted.

The point is to be found at the heart, at the center. This is also what undoes it, in that it results from the true wedging, the most central [one], of the symbolic, the imaginary, and the real.

‘“There are words that carry, and others do not. This is called interpretation,” Lacan said in Nice in 1975.’ : From p6 of Jack W. Stone’s translation from Freud2Lacan.com : In analytic practice, it is not simply a question of tickling. We grasp that some words carry, and others don’t. This is what we call interpretation.
