Furthermore, it is now clear that the quality of care for psychiatric patients is deteriorating, while funding for global brain research projects is increasing massively.
There is no reason to dispute the value of precision psychiatry as a research programme – it will undoubtedly lead to the development of a number of drugs that are effective in treating what it calls “functional deficits,” which would be no small achievement. But its imperialistic pretension of imposing a totally prescriptive paradigm for psychiatry through the offices of parliamentarians who are seduced by scientism and ill-informed about complex debates is unacceptable.
