Publication of The Founding Act, 1964
The text, first published untitled in a mimeographed form in June [21] 1964, was printed for the first time in the 1965 Yearbook of the Freudian School of Paris, accompanied by the “Supplementary Note” and the “Preface”. The note dated 1971 [28 February] and the Preamble were published in the 1977 Yearbook of the Freudian School of Paris.
Richard G. Klein notes : As none of the three translations (Jeffrey Mehlman’s, Cormac Gallagher’s or the NLS’s –possibly Russell Grigg) included a translation of Note pour l’Annuaire : 28th February 1971 [Autre écrits: pages 240‐241], Anthony Chadwick kindly translated those eleven paragraphs. I have added them underneath the Jeffrey Mehlman translation.
See Richard G. Klein’s website, www.Freud2Lacan.com /Lacan/179. Autres Écrits/ Acte de Fondation—bilingual, 3 translations/, at the bottom of the Jeffrey Mehlman translation column.
